What is a CNC Router

There are questions that arise from the questions of those who are not related to the subject of CNC machine tools or are seeing them for the first time. We will try to answer questions and queries below.

What is a CNC Router

CNCs consists of axis with a suitable combination of movement and basis of predefined coordinates move some point, this point create 3d objects.

The sketch below shows a 3-axis setup, i.e. a CNC that moves on three axes X, Y, Z.

What does that do?

It moves in three axes and forms three-dimensional objects.

How it works

The axis arrangement has drive mechanisms connected to electric motors, which are connected to central boards (drivers), all of which are controlled by the central board (controller) which receives commands from the computer.

What features does it have?

At the moving point a head is placed to shape objects.

This head can be:

  • Milling engraving machine, cutting various materials such as wood, metal, carbon fiber, pcb boards etc. (CNC freesia "MILLING CNC").
  • Rotation head with knife (drag knife), for cutting paper, cardboard, leather, cutting stickers (labels), etc. The above head mounted in the chuck of milling machine and rotates freely depending on the traffic on the axes X, Y of the CNC.
  • Head laser, for cutting various materials such as paper, cloth, plexiglass etc., For printing eidolon in materials such as glass, plastic etc.
  • Heated head consist of ceramic resistor which melt plastic (pla, abs) for generating three-dimensional objects. The above description represents the three-dimensional objects printer (3D PRINTER).
  • Special knife with hardware configuration, which is mounted on a lathe and rotated cyclically (CNC LATHE "LATHE CNC").

How cnc is it programmed?

First we select the object we want to create.

Either we design it in a cad design program or we produce it approximately from an image, with the help of software.

How long does it take for the process we set it to run to complete?

The completion time is related to the speed of the machine, the quality and type of the Head, the type of cutting tools – endmills (if the head is a milling cutter, Spindle) as well as the starting material placed for processing.

Can anyone use it?

Handling it does not have any particular difficulty, as there are softwares that simplify the process quite a bit.
